Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an 8-week program in partnership with Chrysalis Institute of Richmond that uses mindfulness practices such as meditation techniques, gentle yoga and information about brain science and behavior patterns to help us understand how/why we react to stress and how to better manage it in our lives. MBSR was developed at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in 1979 and has been offered in hospitals and therapy centers throughout the world ever since. Many research studies over the past several decades have shown that this program can be of significant benefit to those suffering with stress and anxiety. This offering is best suited for adults over the age of 18 and is not meant to ‘treat’ or ‘cure’ those with severe anxiety or depression.
